I loved two-wheels from the start. As a kid I lived
on my bike, clipping a trading card, or cards, onto the frame to clap against
the spokes of my bike was my deep-throated muffler. As soon as I was old
enough, I bought a real motorcyle, not a Harley at first, but a bike more
affordable for a wannabe artist. If I wasn't riding my bike, I was in my
living room drawing wall art of the baddest motorcycles I could imagine.
I'd read and collect every book and magazine I could get my hands on---then
I'd paint another bike. Using oil or acrylic, I began painting on canvas
and designing one of a kind posters on paper. And I dreamed someday of becoming
a real artist, maybe a motorcycle artist. Maybe a motorcyle artist who would
have a book --- or books --- published of his art. Those were the early
days, when I'd wait for that one big phone call from someone needing an
artist---a motorcycle artist.
In 1997, that phone call came. At the time I'd been still painting in
oil and acrylic on canvas, doing a series of neon roadside paintings and
custom motorcycle art, both on canvas and on the actual bike tank and
fenders. I'd been supporting myself as an artist for a number of years---and
still tearing the roads up on my bike. The phone call was from Harley-Davidson's
art rep, an art publisher who sought out fine artist's that painted motorcyle
paintings. The publisher not only sold the original Harley-Davidson wall
art, but also published motorcycle art posters, giclee's of the American
bike on paper and canvas AND had the authority to made their artist's
"officially licensed." Now, there's only a few artist's around this old
world that have ever been made an "Officially Licensed" fine artist for
Harley-Davidson. Before the acrylics were dry on my canvas, the paper's
were signed---I had joined the elite few. Time for a bike ride! Time for
a new Harley! I saw my book deal coming! Lots of books! I saw my motorcycle
paintings on canvas on half the walls of America! I saw the limited edition
giclee's rolling off the presses---right next to the books, right alongside
the posters and the phone cards. As a fringe benefit, I was also signed
to be the next "officially licensed" fine artist for Chevrolet/Corvette
and Mattel Toys. The publisher was interested in what I was already painting:
roadside neon art wall art paintings. But, asked if I would include the
Harley into some of the paintings. Sure! Hell, yeah! There was a movement
in the making: to take the art of the motorcycle out of the garage and
into the wall of the living room and I'd become part of it.
Today, I spend half my time in front of a canvas making motorcycle paintings,
the other half on my bike. I don't hardly answer that pesky phone anymore.
I'm still pushing around the oil or the acrylic paints and loving every
moment of every day. And even though the presses haven't had a meltdown,
and the country hasn't ran out of paper or canvas because of me, things
are sweet---because of art and because I have my bike . . . and a few
other necessities.
As with my Roadside Neon Paintings, each of my American Motorcycle paintings
are avaiable for your wall as a museum quality, limited edition giclee
on either canvas or paper. In appreciation of my Harley art collectors,
I've kept each edition size "limited"---usually under 100 prints per edition.
Each of these limited edition giclee's are carefully inspected, signed
and numbered. I personally guarantee the quality of all my art---if you
are not completely satisfied (thrilled even!), I will promptly return
payment in full. Personalized signings by the artist are honored, as are
commissioned paintings of your motorcycle---with or without your model.
Together we could design a custom motorcycle art painting in oil or acrylic
for your wall that would be so individual, your puppy will cry. I'll even
come over and help you hang it. Afterward, we could dust of the bike and
go have a damn beer together---what the hell. If I answered my phone,
you could pull out your James "Kingneon" Gucwa, Harley-Davidson art, phone
