I hope you'll take a few minutes to browse around and aquaint yourself with the site, there's quite a lot going on here. Since the 80's the American Roadside has been the focus of James' life; traveling the backroads he has collected thousands of images of the classic neon sign, the roadside motel (his longtime favorite subject), theater marques of year past, the traditional diner and other relics from the roadside. His condition: they had to be authentic, from years past, and filled with character. Once back in the studio, these less than ordinary icons were transformed into monuments of fine art on the hundreds of canvas Gucwa has created over the years. A few examples of these works have been posted on this site on a special page called American Roadside Paintings. He has been coined "The King of Neon," hence, his nickname: "Kingneon."

After twenty-five years, this collection of art has finally been put into print. Signs of Art, the paintings of James "Kingneon" Gucwa, is the book dedicated to the work. We offer both softback and hardcover copies of that collection.

And on the lighter side, Gucwa hopes he could bring a smile to your face during your visit here. Faces of Kingneon is his art of the caricature. From your photo, let Kingneon personally create an affordable cartoon that will keep you beaming for years.

In 1997 James was made an "Officially Licensed" fine artist for Harley-Davidson, (also Chevrolet/Corvette and Mattel Toys). From calendar art to fine art on canvas, Gucwa has elevated the subject of the motorcycle to a new level. His page, American Motorcycle Art, will take you there. Remember, all of Kingneon's art is available as Limited Edition, museum quality Giclee's on paper or canvas. If you don't see want you want, ask.

Of all the various pages on this site, U-bid-Art, is without a doubt, the best value. Why? Because on this page, YOU determine the price! Finally, fine art at prices you could easliy live with. Wow! And, if you'd like to have a look at what my other half is up to, check out my wife's art at KBCollections. You'll also find another kind of art on this site: The art of the word. During the '90s, James began to write his first novel, The Coming. A second was soon to follow. Alligator Eyes is currently available through Amazon.com., Barnes and Noble, and Ingram. But the author recommends purchase of this new novel from Book Locker as the service is faster. He uses the pen name of J.G.Cragg. Look for a third novel in 2007.

Please bookmark this site, it's ever changing. Drop a note in my Guestbook before you go. Most of all, enjoy, and come back soon.

"Signs of Art is a wonderful addition to the documentation of our country's roadside heritage. We hope these beautiful images inspire others to join us in preserving these artistic and historic pieces before they disappear!"

Sandra Harris, Executive Director, The Neon Museum
Las Vegas, Nevada

"James Guçwa's photorealistic work is masterful and inviting. Mr. Guçwa is a brilliant technician whose magical use of color and beautiful contribution to the genre of the American Roadside clearly ranks among the best."

Cliff Stieglitz, Publisher, Airbrush Action Magazine.

"Hats off to James Guçwa for capturing these sign classics for all to see. By the time you read this book, most of the original signs will have disappeared, if they hadn t gone to the scrapyard before. Guçwa is doing a fine thing in preserving this special brand of Roadside Americana!"

Tod Swormstedt, Director, American Sign Museum
Cincinnati, OH

"You can't talk about life in America during the 20th century without invoking neon, and now James Guçwa s paintings stir up memories of those iconic signs you may have passed only once in your lifetime, as well as the signs in your hometown that you've driven by every day.

Feliks Banel, Deputy Director of Seattle's Museum of History & Industry
Seattle, WA
